Myopia - Burning out the the Fog

Shortsightedness is when the eyes focus incorrectly, making out-of-the-way targets appear smudged.

A shortsighted person sees near targets clearly, while objects in the distance are obscured. And so, someone with nearsightedness tends to squint when viewing far away targets. This characteristic is the origin of the word “myopia,” which comes from two Greek words: myein, meaning shut, and ops, meaning eye.

Jaeger charts are used to assess a individual’s near vision. A Snellen chart will be better for assessing somebody’s far vision. A shortsighted individual will not be able to view the image from a Snellen chart with great clarity and so the letters looked fuzzy and unfocussed.

It occurs when the physical length of the eye is greater than the optical length. So, you see, Myopia often develops in the rapidly growing school-aged child or teenager, and progresses during the growth years, requiring frequent modifications in glasses or contact lenses. It usually stops progressing as growth is completed in the early twenties.

So whilst young people are the most likely to get Nearsightedness. It happens in equal numbers between boys and girls. If there is family history, then somepeople are most likely to have it.

If you are nearsighted, then you are likely to need to the local opticians and see whether I could get discount glasses online. Just go to an actual optician for the prescription and request a copy of the prescriptions.
