A Bit of a Briefing re Botox Sydney

Botox is fast becoming trendy amongst Sydney’s fashionable set in fact it is fast becoming a grooming must for people in the city. Still I am always stunned by the stories in connection with this routine procedure.

I have listed below some of the more common myths that I come across daily in Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I work as a doctor.

Mistake Number 1: I may lose the ability to express emotion!

The human face has approximately 60 muscles. They ordinarily perform harmoniously, however over a period of time lines or wrinkles can appear. When surplus Botox is used the facial muscles may become a liile bit less taut. By and large doctors use comparatively low dosages to make you look well rested, yet you will keep your facial expression.

By injecting the right quantity of the toxin in just the right tissues you can achieve a softening of any wrinkles without any reduction in facial expression.

Mistake Number 2: Botulinum is poisonous!
There is a grain of truth in this. Botulinum Toxin Type A is the exact pharmaceutical nomenclature. In large doses it may relax facial muscles that you do not want loosened and may even cause illness.

Chemists have a well known saying that states ‘everything is poisonous - it all depends on the dose’. Any drug will make anyone ill in large dosages. If you drink too much water you will die.

Mistake Number 3: Botox hurts!
In our clinic Star Cosmetic Medicine the doctor utilises hypodermic needles smaller than hair. Numerous people state that the injections aren’t as sore as a mosquito bite. It is certainly not as traumatic as a procedure like a vaccination.

Mistake Number 4: Botox will numb the sensation in my face!
Not true. Botox affects the neuromuscular junction, not sensate nerve fibers. Botox only impacts on the ability to relax muscular tissues.

Mistake Number 5. Once you start Botox you need to continue otherwise you will have worse wrinkles than earlier!
This is also incorrect.

The first set of injections is effective for about 3 months. Further treatments do last a little longer. Gradually as muscle strength returns, the wrinkles will reappear little by little. But they will definitely not be any worse than previously.

Even should you never have Botox shots again - those lines will in all probability be a little smoother than if you had never been treated. This, of course is primarily so because your facial muscles and skin have had a rest for a few months.
